Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important representative said the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
