The Evolution of a Cult can be defined by clear stages.

1. The Grand Vision

A charismatic leader or figureheads introduce a revolutionary approach offering a cure for struggling players.

So here we are. They’re getting ready to challenge the establishment in Australia. Pressure is mounting. Signs of trouble appear from within. An isolated player, vulnerable, nervous, the slogan POSITIVE INTENT displayed prominently as a statement, has emerged from the field and is taken aside in secrecy towards an inconclusive loan stint in county cricket.

2. Initial Adoration

Cult leaders promise a reboot, hope for a future, camaraderie, success among a group who all believe in the big idea.

What did it represent at first? Just men on a balcony feeling good. Ink. Forearms. Jawlines. Peak performance vibes. Admittedly, The squad often say Bazball doesn’t actually exist, which is funny since it’s not recognized, what exactly did I just watch?

However, everyone understands the concept. It’s the batsman executing a stroke so depraved it defies description. It’s the excitement of Ben Stokes in his final form, an expression conveying: pensive Nordic god, rugged appearance, natural look, so authentically Modern Savage you wouldn’t be surprised to look down and see him playing on the ground bare-chested holding a fish.

It’s the opener continuing to have permission speaking publicly, appearing as a cheerful animal in a waistcoat, saying stuff like we are actively deconstructing the orange. Indeed, the atmosphere, initially, was uplifting.

3. Expansion Period

Building period. Cohesion maintained through repetition of mantras. These ideas are often illogical to prove commitment.

And surprisingly, Britain is itself a cult, a structure of hidden ranks, a royal family remains.

The team have been sealed up in this environment since childhood. Seeking change, to build a better atmosphere, they are mirroring their upbringing, forming a new circle, an exclusive group, but now with a new team and a leader who wants you to be yourself provided you conform.

Live where your feet are. Confront risks. But no matter how fast and far you run, you’re always basically in the same place.
